Have you scheduled an appointment with yourself in the past month? This may seem like a strange question. Why would you need to schedule an appointment with yourself?
Do you find yourself saying, as I often do, “I wish I had more time.” Do you find that you start tasks and never seem to complete them? How many reports have you started in the past three months or more and not completed? How many names and telephones numbers of clients or customers you’ve entered in your day planner organizer whom you planned on contacting, but have not done so? How many “Thank You” or “Thinking of You” notes have you started to write but not completed?
If any of the above questions apply to you, it’s time to make an appointment with yourself. An important reason for this type of appointment is for self-evaluation and assessment. Many of us who have a business online have other businesses, or may work outside the home, elmbrookpsych whether it’s a 9-5 job or another schedule. You also have family and other responsibilities, which may or may not include young children. To compound it, you may be a single mom or dad so child-rearing responsibilities are yours alone.
The importance of time management becomes critical to your progress and success. It’s very easy to fall into a routine of crisis management, where you just attack what seems to be the most critical at that moment; where you just keep putting out one proverbial fire after another.
This is not good business practice. It’s not a good practice for any part of our lives. Making an appointment with yourself every month means that first, if you have not done so, you will need to take time to put in writing all the short-term goals for your life, not just your business, infomaatic then take time to sit down and make a realistic schedule. You can use a physical day planner organizer, or your may use an online appointment book.
You will want to include all aspects of your life as focusing on one aspect only, for example on your home-based business, would be impractical. You must include the other parts of your life as these will all impact your time and your ability to manage your time effectively. Do not think of this time as time wasted because it’s critical so that you can reduce stress in your life.
In assessing your progress in your business each month you need to analyze where you’ve been, where you are, and where you want to be so that you can know whether you’re actually accomplishing your goals or if you’re just like the little hamster on the spinning wheel. None of us what to wait for too long to find out that we are working really hard but not making progress. Making an appointment with yourself every month will allow you to determine if you need to make changes and what the most effective changes should be.
Once you are satisfied that you are staying on track, you can make a personal decision to extend these appointments to perhaps on a quarterly basis.
